How do I replace a gas cylinder?
If your chair is sinking, then the gas cylinder is more than likely the culprit. Sure, you can use duct tape or PVC piping to keep your chair at your favorite height, but that’s just a band aid fix! Instead, order a replacement cylinder from us or, if we don’t carry the cylinder for your chair, contact the manufacturer.
First assemble your tools: safety gloves and goggles, materials like old towels or newspaper to absorb any messes, a rubber mallet, a pipe wrench, and some WD-40. Begin by laying down your towel, newspaper, etc, and then turn the chair on its side. Use the rubber mallet to separate the gas cylinder encasement from the base of the chair. Then use your pipe wrench to loosen the gas cylinder. If the cylinder is stuck, spray some WD 40. If you don’t have a pipe wrench, just unscrew the gas cylinder encasement entirely from the base. Next, pop the replacement gas cylinder into the mechanism, and attach everything back together.
What chairs will this cylinder work on?
This cylinder is for the Herman Miller Aeron only.
How do I replace the wheels or castors?
Unscrew the wheels or castors, pop in the news ones, and then insert a piece of wood or something like a piece of wood into the wheels or castors so that when you tap the replacement parts back into place you don’t strike your new wheels or castors directly.
Do you sell different types of castors for different types of floors?
We do! We have castors for deep carpets and for hardwood. If you’re still worried about your floor, we also sell carpet chair mats. Just make sure you buy one of the carpet chair mats and not the Active Ergo Anti-Fatigue Mat. The Active Ergo Anti-Fatigue Mat is designed to be used when standing because it reduces the pressure on your joints and feet by redistributing weight. The Active Ergo Anti-Fatigue Mat is not meant to protect your floors and you won’t reap any of its rewards if you’re using it while sitting in a chair.
I got WD-40 everywhere while attempting the repair. Help!
Dish washing liquid on a damp rag will clean up most WD-40 spills. However, if you got WD-40 on raw wood then some lacquer thinner and a little sandpaper will make it look good as new!
I scratched and scuffed my chair. What do I do?
Use the Herman miller Aeron/Mirra Touch Up Paint! It comes in dark grey/ graphite, and in shadow grey. You can also use the paint on other chairs of a similar color.
