Why Your Desk Chair Should Be As Comfortable As Your Bed

When buying a new mattress, chances are you're going to take the time and effort to pick out the right one. It needs to fit your needs since you're going to be sleeping on it every night for the next five years. Most people are more than willing to pay a hefty chunk for the right mattress. According to a study by Tempur-Pedic, a third of people spend as much money on their mattress as they do on their sofa or their television, and 17% spend as much on their mattress as they do on their vacation!

It makes sense to spend that much money on a mattress, right? According to a survey done by Bloomberg BusinessWeek Magazine, the average American gets 8.5 hours of sleep per night. That's approximately a third of your day spent on your mattress. However, the survey also found that the average American spends 8.9 hours per day sitting, the majority at work in a desk chair. That's almost equivalent to the amount of time you spend sleeping, if not more. So why aren't people spending as much on desk chairs as they are on cruises to the Caribbean?

Sitting in the wrong desk chair would be like sleeping on a tile floor every night. It is crucial to your health that you invest in the right office chair. Bad chairs can cause a multiplicity of ailments including chronic back pain; therefore, it is important that your chair offers supportive features. It should be ergonomic, meaning it is designed to reduce fatigue and discomfort while offering lumbar support. Adjustability is also important so you can customize it to fit your individual needs. Save yourself the undesirable consequences of buying a "cheap and easy" chair. It pays off to put forth careful consideration when purchasing an office chair.
