Benefits of Taking Small Breaks At Work

If you are sitting in a chair, staring at a computer screen for eight hours, it is vitally important to take breaks throughout the day. This does not, however, mean taking three different hour-long breaks. According to research, taking regular small breaks makes us more productive. Your eyes need rest, your body needs movement, and it can be helpful to distract your mind for a bit before trying to think of new ideas.

Benefits of Breaks

Getting up and moving around allows your body gets the proper blood flow that it needs for good health. It also helps your eyes get a break from staring at a computer screen. After a while of screen time, eyes can tend to get sleepy; a break, however, can give your eyes some much-needed rest. Additionally, breaks give the mind rest, which can be incredibly helpful for gaining a fresh perspective.

Different Types of Breaks

Taking a walk can be a great way to give your body a little exercise and keep it active. Depending on your work environment, it may not be possible to take a long walk, but you can take a couple laps around the office to get your blood flowing. Reading a book for a short ten to fifteen minutes can also be a great way to get away from the glare of the computer screen and also to give your mind a little jog. Stretch your body as much as possible. It can be refreshing to stand up and give yourself a few stretches like rotating your neck or touching your toes. Finally, try eating a little snack. Avoid heavy meals like fast food, as they will only make you** feel worse. Eat a small snack, like a piece of fruit or some granola.

These tips will surely make for a more pleasant day at the office and a more comfortable work environment!
